Georgia State Requirements

Satisfaction Guaranteed: You only pay for courses you want to complete. If you begin a course and decide you don't like it, just stop and choose another course to complete. It is that easy.

Completions are reported within hours of completion. Georgia rules state that course completions must be reported no later than 30 days after the course completion date. Accordingly, complete and pay for your bundle within 30 days from the date you complete your first course in the bundle.

 Life and Health Producers


Licensed LESS than 20 years


24 CE credit hours every 2 year period,  3 of which must be in ethics. Students that will sell the following products must include the following special training in the 24 credit hour requirement.

 

 

Special Training/Education Requirements

 

Annuity Training

One-time 4-hour Annuity Suitability training is required before selling annuity products in Georgia.

Requirement begins March 2016.  

 

Long-Term Care Partnership (LTCP) 

Initial 8-hour LTC Partnership training is required before selling LTC insurance products in Georgia. Agents must complete the initial 8-hour, state-approved LTC training course.  

 

Ongoing 4-hour LTC Partnership training requirement is required to be completed each 24 month period after completing the initial LTCP training.  

 

Georgia Medicaid and the Long-Term Care Partnership Program: Residents who have completed another state’s qualified LTCP course will need to complete a 2-hour Georgia specific Medicaid course.

Topic Requirements

You must take courses that apply towards your license type. 

In addition:

•Limited Subagent Only License – can take any CE course approved if they hold only a limited subagent license. No ethics is required.


•Limited subagent combination License – Limited subagent licensee that hold another life/health, property/casualty or adjuster license are required to complete courses in the license type they hold.  A maximum of 5 credit hours can come from a subject area that coincides with the Limited Subagent license and Ethics is required.


•Credit Insurance Only License – licensee that holds the "credit insurance only license" can take any CE course approved if they hold only a limited subagent license and Ethics is required.


•Credit Insurance Combination License –Limited subagent licensees that hold another life/health, property/casualty or adjuster license are required to complete courses in the license type they hold. A maximum of  5 credit hours can be in the area of Credit Insurance self-study course and Ethics is  required.


•Workers Compensation Adjuster Only License - Licensees with the WC Adjuster Only license are required to take 20 credit hours of approved CE through the WC Board and no Ethics is required.

Final Exam Requirements

Final exams are required to be proctored.  A proctor is required to be a "Disinterested Third Party" and shall NOT be a family member, relative, dependents, employers, supervisors, employees, subordinates, partners joint ventures or co-owner.  A proctor cannot have an economic or other interest in assuring the successful outcome of the examination.


Final exams are closed book. Course materials are not available to refer to when completing the exam. A 70% or higher is required to pass the exam. Students have 5 retake opportunities at no additional charge.

Continuing Education Carryover Rule

50% or 12 CE credit hours completed in excess of the requirement can be carried forward to your next license period.  Additional Ethics hours  carryover as general credit only.


Rule for Repeating Courses

Courses cannot be repeated in any 2-year license period.  


Certificates of Completions

Best Insurance Education Company, BestEd, emails printable certificates of completion in Georgia. The completion certificates are emailed to you when you make payment after completing your continuing education courses.  Keep a copy of each certificate of completion in your files for 5 years per Georgia rules and regulations.

Continuing Education Completion Reporting

BestEd reports completions to Sircon within 24-48 hours or less of course completion.  

Remember: the State of Georgia uses your course completion date, not the report date, for compliance purpose.

 In accordance with the Illegal Immigration Reform and Enforcement Act of 2011, all new and renewal applicants must submit a signed and notarized copy of the Citizenship Affidavit form click here http://www.oci.ga.gov/ExternalResources/Forms/AllForms/GID-276-EN.pdf and one secure and verifiable identification form.

Continuing Education Exemptions

CE Exemptions

•For newly licensed producers the pre-licensing course can be used to satisfy the first renewal cycle CE requirement. Producers must submit their pre-licensing certificate with renewal as proof of CE compliance.


•Non-resident producers in good standing with their home state, provided that the non-resident producer's home state reciprocates with Georgia producers in the same manner.  Non-resident producers must submit documentation at the time of renewal, certifying that they have met their home state`s continuing education requirement. 


•Non-resident adjusters are not required to complete the Georgia CE requirement. 


•Licensees holding a CFP, CLU, CPCU, ChFC, FLMI, CIC, CEBS, AAI, CRM, or a major BBA in Risk Management and Insurance from an accredited college must complete 12 hours of CE including 3 hours of ethics every two years.

If an inpidual course is selected it must be purchased within 60 day of date taken.

If a bundle of courses is selected, all courses in the bundle must be taken and payment made within 60 days of the first course in order to be reported to the state, and receive the bundle discount.

If payment is not made, the course(s) will become inactive.
