Life and Health Producers

Annuity Training

• TX Annuity Best Interest 4, a 4 hour course,  must be completed before an insurance porfessional can sell annities in Texas.
• An ongoing 8-Hours of state-approved annuity training is required each 2-year renewal period after completing the 4-hour requiement if you continue to sell annuities.  See the course menu to complete the 4-hour TX Annuity Continuing Ed Course and/or the 4-hour TX Annuity Suitability course.  New: The TX Annuity Best Interst 4 course can also be used as 4 of the 8 hours required for Annuity Followup Training. 

Medicare Training

• An initial one-time 8-hours of state-approved Medicare training is required before selling Medicare products. See the course menu to complete the BestEd TX Medicare-Related Products Certification course.
• An ongoing 4-Hours of state-approved Medicare training is required each 2-year renewal period after completing the 4-hour requiement if you continue to sell Medicare products.  See the course menu to complete the BestEd TX Medicare-Related Products CE coure. 

Property and Casualty Producers

• 10-Hours of insurance continuing education are required each renewal period
• 3 of the 10 are required in Ethics for licensees renewing after 09.30.2022
• 5 at least are required to be in classroom equivalent course format

TDI Hour Requirement Change

A licensee renewing a license after September 1, 2015, are required to have 24 CE hours. 3 of the 24 are required in Ethics for licensees renewing after 09.30.2022 . At least 50%  of the CE hours are required to be in classroom equivalent courses or in a certified classroom.

TDI Continuing Education Enforcement Rules

For all licenses issued or renewing on and after November 1, 2015, completion of the 24 hours of CE is required for a licensee to renew a license.  

If a licensee does not complete the 24 hours of CE before the expiration date of the license, the licensee will have 90 days to complete the deficient number of hours and pay a fine of $50 per deficient hour up to a $500.00 maximum..  

If these two conditions are not met within 90 days of the license expiring, the license will be inactivated, and the licensee will have to apply for a new license.  

A new license will not be granted until the deficient CE hours are completed and the fine is paid.

In order to ensure that there is no delay in renewing a license, license holders are encouraged to complete CE hours at least 30 days before the license expires to allow time for the CE provider to report the successful completion of the course(s) to TDI.

 License Renewal Dates

The renewal date occurs every 2 years on the last day of your birth month.

Course Topics Requirement

All TDI-approved courses can be taken by a licensee no matter the license type.

 Final Exam Requirements

Important: Bundle Discount Rule- All courses in a bundle must be taken and paid for together, within 30 days from date the 1st course is completed to receive the bundled discount.  If the discount is not important due to time constraints, pay for courses you have taken then continue to complete the courses you selected in the bundle at your convenience.

Self-study

• A successful course completion score of 70% or higher is required to receive credit for a self-study ce course.
• Licensees can retake the exam as many times as needed to successfully complete the course.
• Exams that are not successfully completed can be retaken at no additional charge.
• Exams are open-book and no monitor is required when taking the course.

Classroom Equivalent (No Final Exam Required)

• A successful course completion score of 70% or higher on each quiz is required to receive credit for a classroom equivalent continuing education course.
• Licensees can retake a quiz as many times as needed to successfully complete the course.
• A quiz that is not successfully completed can be retaken at no additional charge.
• The course is interactive and no monitor is required when completing a quiz

 50% Classequivalent Rule

At least 50% of your requirement must be in classroom equivalent course format or you must attend a certified classroom for the 50% of your requirement.

 Continuing Education Carryover Rule

A licensee may not carry forward excess hours completed in one reporting period to the next reporting period. 

Rule for Repeating Courses in Texas 

 A course cannot be repeated more than once in a 2 year license period for CE credit.

 Certificate of Completion

Best Insurance Education Company, BestEd, emails printable certificates of completion in Texas.

• The completion certificates are emailed to you when you make payment after completing your continuing education courses.  
• Keep a copy of each certificate of completion for  5 years per Texas rules and regulations. 

 CE Completion Reporting

BestEd reports completions to Texas Insurance Department within hours of your payment. For reporting purpose, complete all CE courses needed within 30 days from the date you complete your first course in the bundle or the date paid, which ever is latest..

 Process to Renew Your Insurance License

Licensees are required to renew their insurance license on or before the license renewal date.

License renewal applications must be completed within the same time period. 

Continuing Education Exemptions

• Any agent, solicitors ISR, or MGA licensed 20 years or more.
• Group II licensees, Temporary Local Recording Agents, Agricultural Agents, Variable Contract Agents, Surplus Lines Agents, Life Insurance Counselors, Risk Managers, Reinsurance Intermediaries (both Brokers and Managers), and Nonresident Agents.
• The licensee must apply for the exemption.

If an inpidual course is selected it must be purchased within 30 day of date taken.
